The Eve Appeal. Five gynae cancers - how do they relate to the menopause?

Our attention was drawn to this fantastic appeal earlier this month – finally got round to jotting a few lines down about it please read and share. It's such an important Appeal as many of us will sadly have been directly or indirectly affected by cancer.

What a lot of people still don't realise is that after gynaecological surgery or chemotherapy women are thrown into an early menopause. So, not only have they got all the awful side effects of surgery to cope with, they then have to cope with suddenly starting to have hot flushes, vaginal dryness – psychologically a double whammy.

Many people completely underestimate the effects this double whammy can have on a woman. Some areas of the country are getting much better at providing support and information prior to surgery and post operatively but there still needs to be a lot more educating and informing done not only for patients but for medical staff as well.

I still come across a whole range of experiences when holding workshops — it really does depend where you live as to the care you are given — where have we heard that before! Some women being offered information and not wanting it and others desperate for information and there being none ... the constant battle to try and provide consistent care throughout continues!

One company providing not only consistent service but a wonderful product is Sylk who provide a moisturising vaginal lubricant – they are doing a fabulous effort by supporting the Eve Appeal, not only spreading the word but by donating 7p per order they are putting their money where their mouth is.

Highly recommend this product – it is endorsed and recommended by many health professionals – Royal College of Nursing, British Menopause Society and the National Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Nurses. Being paraben, chemical and hormonal free it is a very good safe product to be able to recommend right across the board to any woman regardless of whether they have had cancer or not. It is plant based, easy to use and…IT WORKS!
